Anyway, I tried to comment on the previous item, but couldn't for some reason. Regarding your comment that "Chris Burke...lined a homer into those LF stands, to nearly the exact same spot that Berkman had served his grand slam": turns out the same guy caught both HR balls.
Real cool that one guy caught both balls, brings to mind one of the greatest things I've ever seen in a hockey game.
Steve Sullivan (playing for the Blackhawks at the time, I believe) gets struck in the face near the boards by an errant puck leading to a lot of blood and one particulary obnoxious fan laughing and pointing at Steve from behind the glass. Steve curses at the guy and skates away to get his face attended to.
Later in the game, Sully accidentally fires the puck over the glass on a failed clearing attempt. Yep, in one of the purest instances of the existence of karma I've ever witnessed, the camera zooms in to where the puck went over the glass and who should be bent over with head in hands, bleeding from the face ? Same dude.
Sully skates over, taps on the glass, laughs. The look on the fans face as the cosmic genius of the event hits him is friggin' brilliant.
Other important information: Chris Burke played the role of "Corky" on "Life Goes On". Presumably before taking up professional baseball, though I could be wrong about the timeline. (Comment this)
5 - Tributes to Tom Cheek pouring in today, I keep getting choked up whenever I hear the Carter homerun call which, of course, is being played constantly.
From '77 to '04, the man called 4,306 straight games along with 41 post-season matches.
Took two days off in '04 following the death of his father.
As you know, I'm not exactly a rabid baseball fan, but I've always thought there was something wonderfully comforting about a baseball radio broadcast and as such probably have heard more games than I've actually seen.
Ha. It has been said.

The man in my ear all those years was Tom Cheek.
Whatta shame.
