The Final Equation
Red Sox Win:
The Red Sox clinch a playoff berth and finish the season with a record identical to that of the 'Division Winning' New York Yankees*. The Red Sox would play the Chicago White Sox in the ALDS, beginning Tuesday in Chicago.
Red Sox Lose:
IF the Indians lose, the Red Sox will clinch the Wild Card and play the White Sox in the ALDS, beginning Tuesday in Chicago.
IF the Indians win, the Red Sox and Indians will square off on Monday at Fenway to decide the wild card.
Win today.
*the Sox have not lost the division yet. If we win tomorrow, we will close the season with a record identical to that of the Yankees, making us the co-champs of the Division. This has in fact happened before; in 2001, the Cardinals and Astros closed the season tied, though the Astros won the tiebreaker and were seeded as the NL Central champs. Nevertheless, both the baseball HOF and baseballreference.com list the Cardinals as either champions or as co-champions. Don't let Yank fans take away the fact that if we win tomorrow, we will have had exactly as good as season as they have had.

And, having last seen him pitch here in Game 3 of the 1999 ALDS, I'd say such a thing is eminently possible, presuming that Fenway can recall it's Jaret chant of so long ago. (Comment this)
