Rampant Popularity

I must be doing something right; 12eight exceeded its allotted monthly bandwidth today.  Anyone who tried and failed to get here this afternoon, my apologies.  I've temporarily upgraded the account.

I generally hate blog.om anyway, and had already been planning to move the site in the offseason.  So, this just gives me extra impetus.  I'll check out the various options; anyone who has a suggestion, let me know.  I'm not really thrilled with any of the major sites that I've checked out, but there are a few other ones here and there.

In other news, the tickets I supposedly had to Saturday's game have evaporated, promised by my friend Nick to his girlfriend in a moment of weakness.  His new girlfriend.  Who doesn't like baseball.  YOU MISERABLE BASTARD I HATE YOU.  I don't really.  But come on.

So, instead, and given that I will be going to Sunday's game, Saturday will be the final Game Blog of the season.  So there's that to look forward to.

Arroyo out, DiNardo in with Toronto up 5-1 in the 4th.  The O's better hold that 1-0 lead, because this is looking very bad.  We cannot afford to lose ground.

Update: Of course, the moment I post this, the Yanks tie it at 1.  It's been a fun season, folks.

1 - Here on the NYC End of Red Sox Nation, I'll be tuned into The Series, unfortunately, minus RemDawg & DO.

I will have to put up with "The Shrill Shills" on YES, & "The Master of The Obvious(Or Is That, OBLIVIOUS)", on FOX, Tim McCarver, & "The Master & Commander of Sarcasm", Joe Buck.

But, MLB GameDay Audio, does give me Joe Castiglione & Jerry Trupiano. That way, I don't have to listen to a "Sterling" Example of a Braying Jackass. (Comment this)

2 - dude, BANDWIDTH?!
you've got to be kidding.
and you pay for this crap?

and your statcounter is seriously unable to give you detailed information?

I really don't understand what's so bad about blogger, and frankly, I hope no one ever explains it to me.

AND NO, MY HOPES ARE NOT CRUSHED. excuse me while I go cheat on my nicoderm program and call jere to bitch and cry while I pretend I'm not smoking.

oh, and by the way - since I know you turned the tv off as you declared the season WELL PAST OVER - after giving up ONE base hit (two runs, thanks Bronson) Lenny was pretty damn good. A lot better than I expected, at least. We should have had him in last night. (Comment this)

3 - This season is not over.

Just win tomorrow, then beat the Yankees 2 of 3 to get to a playoff, and hope that Chicago beats up on Cleveland. This season is not over.

But, the offense had better wake up. Two runs in the last 13 or 14 innings - and at Fenway.

I agree about DiNardo. He actually looked pretty good out there. Of course, the game was kinda over at that point, so who knows how focused Toronto was. But whatever, that earns him another chance in a situation where it matters. God knows nobody else out there can obviously do better. (Comment this)

4 - thanks for backing me up. Now go down to the basement and give your son a swift kick in the rear... and I think I can free myself on Sunday if you'd rather have someone positive at the game with you, father of Andrew;-) (Comment this)

5 - Reb, you're the one who needs a kick in the ass for smoking. I say that with caring, not with malice. As for Arroyo, that's where the caring stops. Sexy leg kicks or not ( Reb's words), HE SUCKED. Must wins coming up, and I have to tell you that Boomer's knee has crept into my thoughts recently. I hope he can turn in a game just like his last start. Groundhog night tonight with a 7:05 start to a beautiful post-season pre-season. (Comment this)

6 - Wait, monthly bandwidth? Is that why you pay me $45/day to sit at my computer hitting refresh? I can back off if you want...

I like this girl Rebecca. She sounds like she has her head on right, understanding that the Sox can and will win it all. right on. However, she has no idea what she's getting herself into offering to go to the game with Dad, who will undoubtedly turn way negative a few innings in. "GODDAMMIT!" with the whimpering look and refusing to budge when the wave comes around (I know, true fans don't do the wave, whatever whatever) (Comment this)

7 - Dude, I can't believe you shamed me like this on your blog. How many times do i have to apologize for not taking you to the game, jesus!!! ok, moving on. I think we still have a decent shot, but the fact is this team just isn't that good. Where as last year, I felt like we really were the best team in the league, this year we're just one of a bunch that have a shot. Last point, if i find out that Arroyo was playing a "gig" before his last crappy start to promote his new cd, he's dead to me. (Comment this)

8 - Okay, so I appreciate the optimism expressed by some here...the Sox still have a very real shot of making the playoffs. BUT...setting aside the question of whether we should feel happy about backing into the playoffs (hello, Padres), does anyone really think once there, the Sox will have any impact? Only a couple players (Wakefield, Renteria, some others) are playing good baseball right now. The offense is dead, the starting pitching is in shambles, and the bullpen can only do its job when the other team is up by 5. I went into the 1999 and 2003 and 2004 playoffs with the strong feeling that the Sox could really do it...and obviously they didn't disappoint: 11-2 in win-or-go-home games, and of course the World Championship. I don't feel that way now. Does anybody beg to differ? I'd love to be proven wrong... (Comment this)

9 - Much to respond to. First, Reb, Peter, Dad, Sus, all y'all - no, the season's not over (and I can't believe I have to address this to you of all people, dad, you've been roundly more negative about this team all year than I have). All that can be said at this point is... wait and see. We all want them in the playoffs, but I guess ther's some difference of opinion over whether they'll get there. This sure as hell doesn't seem like a team that I could feel good about if I saw their 2005 AL East Champs banner, or a Wild Card hat. 4 more games in which to decide. Maybe 5.

Nick - Sorry, man, but justice must be served. I'd been bragging to so many about how my awesome friend was getting me awesome tickets, and now I have to listen to Tim McCarver instead. But you're right, this team does not feel like a winning team in the slightest. Hopefully they prove me wrong, but... not feeling it.

Earl - that is, of course, the other thing. Getting to the playoffs is one thing, but winning there? When our pitchers are alternately hurt or horrible, and apparently we can only have one hot hitter in any given week? Not to mention that there seem to be only two pen pitchers our manager trusts, and one of them has less than 50 MLB IP's? Doesn't sound good to me. (Comment this)

10 - Oh, and Reb - I watched right up to the bitter final out, and well into the postgame, thank you very much. And Lenny DiNardo was excellent. There's a spot reserved for him in my bullpen next year - we'll see about Theo's. (Comment this)
