Get Ready
For new names. It sounds like this team is days away from some large-scale changes to its pitching staff; we can only speculate, but I'm guessing these involve the release of Alan Embree in favor of Tim Bausher, Cla Meredith or Juan Perez from Pawtucket, maybe a deal for a reliever or starter. It's probably early for the latter, though there have been some early deals this year, so one can never say. Regardless, sounds like something's coming down the pipe, probably as soon as next week. This quote from Theo is particularly telling:
"I think we're reluctant to give up on some guys who've performed for us and who have a track record," Epstein said. "But it reaches a point where what you have isn't working and you've got to make some changes. It's a pain tolerance." - Boston Herald
It's tough to get more pointed than that. Guys who have been around for a bit - read Embree, Millar, Bellhorn - could be in trouble.
Tonight, another test for the staff as Wakefield tries to right his ship. He'll do so against Glendon Rusch at 8:10 Eastern, in an attempt to salvage the last game of this series and this road trip. It shall be Sunday Game Blogged.
Speaking of Sunday Game Blogs... the Sox are 4-2, are hitting .310, and have a collective 4.10 ERA during Sunday Game Blogs this year. Starters have gone an average of 7 innings, and Alan Embree has thrown 4 1/3 scoreless innings.
I'm just sayin'.

Terry - thanks for reading.
Nick - Yeah, I agree... I don't really tink Bellhorn is on the hot seat, but I was just trying to think about who Theo might have been talking about there.
As for the rotation, Arroyo will stay at a low 4's, definitely, and Clement will be better than solid... Miller I think will be back and forth, but will end with a mid to high 4's unless he goes down to injury again. Wake is what he is. The wild cards are Schill and Wells. If Wells can give us consistent quality starts, I can be comfortable with the rotation to a degree. But we need Schill back at at least 80%,I think, to make it so we dont need to make a major SP addition. (Comment this)
